Audrey Josephine Means Vowell Wonders, 99 of Terre Haute, IN passed away at 11:20 AM Friday, November 18, 2016 at Cobblestone Crossing in Terre Haute, IN.
She was born in Graysville, IN, November 17, 1917 the daughter of Charles H. Means and Lillie Opal Hopewell Means.
Audrey graduated from Graysville High School in 1935, married her high school sweetheart, Ed Vowell, shortly after graduation. They remained together until his passing in 1949.
She married Garland Wonders in 1951 and shared a life with him until his death in 1999.
Audrey was a longtime resident of the Sullivan area. While Ed Vowell went off to serve in WWII, she worked in the Arizona copper mines and returned to Sullivan after the war.
After marrying Garland, she worked with him as a fruit stand owner, an independent long haul trucker and a nurse’s aide at Mary Sherman Hospital in Sullivan, IN.
She is a member of the First Christian Church in Sullivan, IN
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Malcom Means and her two husbands Ed Vowell and Garland Wonders.
Survivors include her niece, Nancy Owens (Dwayne) of Terre Haute, IN and a great niece Kathleen Charity Owens of Terre Haute, IN.
Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, IN with Rev. David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until services Tuesday.
