So very sorry to hear about Butch's passing . Just received an email somewhat late.
My late husband, David, one of his teachers at BSU, was so glad to meet again with you both at the 40th reunion. I think that Butch also helped moved us here in 1970 from Muncie, IN. May the good Lord bring you continued peace and comfort. I enjoy living with much of David's art work and books.

Sincerely, Susan Baker Cayton BSU 68' and 72'

Although we didn't always see eye to eye, Chuck and Becky introduced Jessica to the Fine Arts that I was not able to and it changed her life. I will be forever grateful that you enriched her life in that way. Rest in Peace.

Becky I am so sorry to hear about Chuck's passing. Chuck and I started teaching together the same year at Turkey Run High School. We had many fun years at TR together. I carpooled with Chuck, Jim Corbin, and Patty Lester. We always talked about what happened at school everyday, our families and many other topics. There was a never dull moment at school and Chuck always was game to do anything to help with pep sessions, being the junior sponsor and help his students becoming better people. I know He will be greatly missed.

Butch is my cousin. He, my cousin Trudy and I were born within 4 months of each other. Although our get togethers were primarily as children, I remember time spent with him and his siblings fondly. My profound sympathy goes out to his wife, son, siblings and friends. Rest in peace, Butch. Sharon Pothuisje Fawcett

I am shocked by this news. Our other cousin was born within 4 months of Butch and me in 1945; our parents were siblings. Our grandfather had his arms full for sure. I have great memories of us as kids getting into all sorts of fun (our parents didn't call it "fun"). Butch was usually the leader and knew all the adventurous places to hang out in Fowler, IN. He was a people magnet. As I read the condolences, it confirms it even more. He will be missed by so many, but now he's at peace. Becky, Chris, Larry, "Ranna", and Amy I am so sorry "Butch" has left this Earth, but I know all those who loved him who went before him are glad to see him. I can hear him laugh with them all.
Lovingly,
Trudy

Chuck was my favorite teacher in high school—he even came to my BFA final exhibition! He always pushed me to try harder, to experiment with materials, to keep on keeping on, and often called me out on my crap (he had a great sense of humor). Chuck was a great man and a true educator who served a major role in shaping me into the artist I am today. I'm very sad to hear of his passing. I will never forget him.

"I don’t know how to tell it—but ef sich a thing could be
As the Angels wantin’ boardin’, and they’d call around on me—
I’d want to ’commodate ’em—all the whole-indurin’ flock—
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock!"

He was one of those teachers/people that you don't soon forget, down to the distinct memory of his love of reading James Whitcomb Riley to us. My condolences to his friends and family.

A remarkable, beloved man who impacted so many people. He was exceptional as a teacher and as a man, and I am so, so much better for having known him as but a mere student.

I am shocked and sadden to hear of "butch" passing. I am his Pothuisje/Schlotman cousin and we always called him Butch, he knew it was me when I asked at Turkey Run HS if Butch was there. I am so glad I sent him the letter from his Grandfather Schlotman telling how much he loved his pleasant, smiling Grandson. My evening with him in Terre Haute so long ago made me wish we lived nearer to each other. I am so sorry for your loss and he will be missed by many. Charlene Pothuisje Crable

Butch was my cousin. He, myself and another cousin were all born within 4 months of each other. This shocking news blind-sided me. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife, his family and his siblings. I also share deep sympathy with the many friends he obviously cultivated in his very short life. Rest in peace, Butch.
