Freida (Harlow) Gaylor

Freida Gaylor, 94, of Sullivan, Indiana passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Sullivan County Community Hospital.

She was born on August 19, 1922 in Sullivan, Indiana the daughter of John “Buck” and Bessie (Wright) Harlow.  Freida is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl “Slim” Gaylor and two sisters; Mary Barcus and Jenny Powell.

Survivors include son, John Stanley Gaylor of Pinellas Park, Florida, daughter, Mary Ann (Billy) Simmons of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren Jessica and Alicia Gaylor; step-grandchildren, John Simmons, Jennifer Valadez, and Rebecca Willis, as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Freida was a registered nurse and worked for many years at Mary Sherman Hospital, Miller’s Merry Manor and Union Hospital.  She loved nursing and touched countless numbers of lives, both by caring for patients and mentoring other medical staff.   Freida also loved her family, music, cooking, any kind of needlework, and her cats. 

At her request, there will be no services. Burial will take place at Center Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Brust Funeral Home. 

Her children want to thank the staff at Sullivan County Community Hospital for their care and kindness during her final days.  They would also like to thank her caregivers from SouthernCare Hospice Services who enabled her to live the later part of her life on her own terms.
