Gerald Dean “Hawkeye” Phegley, 79, passed away at Sullivan County Community Hospital on August 29, 2017.
He was born on February 17, 1938 in Sullivan County to Clarence Archie and Velma (Goodman) Phegley.
Gerald was a longtime truck driver for Dodd’s Pallet Plant and Midwest Trucking. He also worked for Sullivan County Park and Lake as security.
Gerald’s passion was playing and singing old country and gospel music on his guitar and piano with his many friends and family. He enjoyed working with the Shelburn Community Club and loved working at their fish fry’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Larry Phegley, two sisters; Mary Ann Phegley and Cathy Arleen Phegley, brother-in-law, Fred Fischer, one grandson and three nephews.
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Georgianna (Hochstetler) Phegley whom he married on October 21, 1982, seven children; Richard Phegley of Farmersburg, Kevin (Marilynn) Phegley of Shelburn, Randy “Pac” (Anita Mae) Phegley of Shelburn, David (Teresa) Sillings of Indianapolis, Darryl (Melba) Sillings of Indianapolis, Teresa (Kevin) Kenmuir of Shelburn, and Kelly Phegley Shaw of Sullivan, two sisters; Martha Fischer of Sullivan and Loretta (Allen) McKain of Shelburn. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Per Gerald’s wishes cremation was chosen with burial at Little Flock Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Brust Funeral Home.
