March 20, 1923 ~ June 2, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

John W.(Bill) Taylor, 94, of Sullivan passed away Friday June 2, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor.

He was born March 20, 1923 in Carlisle, IN, the son of Carl and Della Eslinger Taylor.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, also his wife of 61 years Bonnie McCombs Truelock Taylor, and a daughter, Vicki Truelock Hines.

Survivors include one son, William Mike Taylor of Wichita, KS, a close family friend John Kennett also of Wichita, KS, two grandchildren: Duane Hines (Karen), and Melissa Miller, several great and great grandchildren.

Bill was a graduate of Sullivan High School, class of 1941, a WWII Marine Veteran, a member of the Sullivan Elks #911, Sullivan American Legion Post #139, Sullivan VFW Post #2459, and a 32nd degree Mason, Sullivan Lodge #263. Bill was a retired Iron Worker and a member of Local #22 for 75 years.

Bill along with his Dad Carl and Lifetime Friend Buck Pirtle built the baseball diamond at the Sullivan Legion and started the Little League Baseball teams in Sullivan. Bill moved back to Sullivan after retiring in New Port Richey, FL for 25 years.           

Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana with Pastor Harold Medsker  officiating. A Military service will be held by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera Legion Posts and Sullivan county VFW Post. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday, with a Masonic Service at 7:00PM. Cremation was chosen and he will be buried at the IOOF Cemetery in Carlisle at a later date.
