John "Jack" W. Buckley

John W. “Jack” Buckley, 92, passed away Saturday October 8, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Sullivan, IN.

            He was born in Shelburn, IN August 4, 1924 the son of Verne Buckley and Jennie McHugh Buckley.

            Jack was retired from the Postal Service, a WWII Army Veteran a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient, a member of the Sullivan American Legion Post #139,and the First Baptist Church in Sullivan, IN. He was the Past President of the Sullivan Co. Historical Society, and a Sunday School Superintendent at the First Baptist Church for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, also a brother, Paul Verne Buckley, and a nephew, Peter Buckley.

            Survivors include his wife, Ilena Warford Buckley of 69 years, whom he married on March 19, 1947, two sons; Donald James Buckley (Tina) of Farmersburg, IN, Gary Wayne Buckley (Janna) of Sullivan, IN, 6 grandchildren; Tammy Rogers, Jacqueline Buckley, Kristi Burkhart, Zachary Buckley, Kirk Buckley and Evan Buckley, 6 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, IN with Rev. Ron Riggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Ridge Cemetery with Military graveside Rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera Legion Posts and the Sullivan VFW Post. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First Baptist Church in Sullivan and the Disabled American Veterans.
