Rosemary Forbes

Rosemary Forbes died peacefully on Christmas Evening at Cobblestone Crossing Nursing Home in Terre Haute, IN with her family by her side.

Rosemary was born May 18, 1916 in Fairbanks Township.  She was delighted to celebrate her 100th birthday with many friends and her adoring family.   Rosemary was the daughter of Aud and Luella Horner who predeceased her along with her brother, Curtis.

She and her husband, Emmett Forbes, were the parents of three children:   Melvin Forbes(deceased), Wanda Deckard and Mark Forbes.  Rosemary had been an active member in Sullivan County Extension Homemakers serving as County President of the group; and a 4-H Leader in Turman Township.  During her early married life, she worked on the farm and spent many days shucking corn by hand.  She enjoyed raising chickens, gardening and preserved the fruits of her labor.  Upon the passing of her father, Rosemary’s mother moved into the home allowing Rosemary the freedom to work outside the home.  She worked at the JC Penney store in Sullivan and was afforded the opportunity to manage catalog desk until the store closed. 

She is survived by Melvin’s widow, Carolyn Forbes; her daughter, Wanda Deckard and husband Kieth; and her son, Mark.

Grandchildren include: Kathy Chapman (Frank), Susan Thrasher (John), Anita Zellers (Aaron), Kenny Forbes(Tina), Brian Deckard(Amy), Andrew Deckard, Brad Deckard(Trish), Sarah Kluesner(John), and Cindy Forbes.  Great grandchildren are:  Emmett Forbes, Kylee Ravellette, Michael Boone, Ryan Boone, Hunter and Hanna Kluesner, Melissa Flanders, Matthew Deckard, Adam and Lane Deckard, Lynsey Drury and Breanne Stockon, Whitney and Carly Zellers. 

Great, great grandchildren are:   Luke and Jake Drury, Rylan and Ella Flanders, Carter Boone, Parker and Spencer Stockon.

Family will receive and visit with friends  from 4-8 PM, Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana   Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11 AM  with Eddie Hayes officiating at Brust Funeral Home.   Interment will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, IN.
