Garnetta C (Olson) Olson

Garnetta C. Olson of Sullivan, Indiana passed away on March 28, 2024, at the age of 101. Born in Sullivan County on September 9, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Berndt and Carrie (Crooks) Olson.

She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1940 and attended business courses in Bloomington and Indianapolis. Initially working in a variety of defense-related jobs during World War II, she was later employed by architects and engineers in Chicago where she was also a real estate broker and served as a trustee for the Hark Foundation, a philanthropic organization.

Garnetta also owned and very much enjoyed running her former Manor House Restaurant inside a unique mansion in Earl Park, IN offering weekend and holiday operations. Upon retirement in Sullivan, she opened The Cottage restaurant for a short time.

Family was Garnetta’s life-long focus. Having created countless beautiful memories and experiences alongside her large extended family, she is preceded in death by her siblings Richard Olson, Melvin Olson, Dwayne Olson, Dorvin Olson and Wilma (Olson) Ruwe as well as nephew Melvin Olson Jr. She is survived by nephews Randy Olson, Eric Olson, Timothy Olson, Chris Olson, John Olson, Michael Ruwe and Dale Olson as well as nieces Karen (Olson) Royer and Kathleen (Ruwe) Dowden. Garnetta is also survived by many devoted great nephews and great nieces.

Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 4. at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, IN followed by interment at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan. Visitation will be the same day from 11 a.m. to Noon.
