Lois June (Osburn) McCammon

Lois June McCammon, 97, of Sullivan, Indiana passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at her residence.

She was born on December 25, 1923 in Farmersburg, Indiana the daughter of Claud and Flossie (Anderson) Osburn. June graduated from Farmersburg High School in 1941 as class valedictorian and attended Indiana University. Shortly after the US engaged in WWII, she enlisted in The Waves and after basic training she was assigned to Alameda Naval Base Headquarters of Pacific Fleet for the WWII. June was the head of a division of 50-70 women in payroll and accounting from early 1942 until her honorable discharge in the spring of 1946. While enlisted she met and married James McCammon in 1947. They resided on their farm in Carlisle for 63 years. June worked at Mace Service, American Latex Corp and for 23 years as field Auditor for Indiana Dept of Revenue. She was a member of Haddon Homemakers, Sorosis Club and American Legion Auxiliary. In 1992, at the age of 67, she embarked on a course she considered the highlight of her life as a member of the Southwest School Corporation Board and she proudly held her position for 20 years. She had a deep interest and love of academics and the welfare of students and the staff and remained until the end of her life.

June is preceded in death by her parents, husband James M. McCammon in 2012, two infant brothers, two sisters; Joy Osburn at the age 7 and Jane Osburn Gray in 2012 and daughter-in-law, Pat McCammon.

Survivors include son, Dr. Richard L. McCammon of Fishers, Indiana, two grandchildren; Jessica (Matt) Brunelle of East Granby, Connecticut, Brandt McCammon of Baltimore, Maryland, three great-grandchildren; Dilan, Brock and Levi Brunelle, four special family members who have provided much support, Bette Sue Coffey, Libby McCammon Emmons, Bob and Susan McCammon.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Indiana with Rev. David Cox officiating and Military graveside rites by the Sullivan County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Brust Funeral Home.
