Medford Wayne Anderson, 82, of Sullivan, Indiana went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Miller’s Merry Manor, with family by his side.
Wayne was born on July 13, 1936, in Sullivan, to Medford and Irene Ridgway Anderson. Wayne was a 1954 graduate of Sullivan High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. Wayne retired from Peabody Coal Company, having worked as a bulldozer operator and heavy equipment mechanic at the Latta Mine in Jasonville, Indiana where he served as President of his local union. He also worked at the Lynnville Mine in Lynnville, Indiana and Universal Mine in Universal, Indiana. Wayne loved spending time with his family and farming with his father and was IU Basketball fan. After retiring from Peabody, Wayne became a certified home inspector and started Top to Bottom Home Inspections and later, Top to Bottom Home Improvements. He was a lifelong member of the Sullivan First United Methodist Church, United Mine Workers of America Local 9926 and the Sullivan American Legion Post 139.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Betty L. McCann Anderson, whom he married on March 11, 1961; three daughters; Toni Anderson of Sullivan, Indiana, Jodi (Brandon) Brummett of Sullivan, Indiana and Lori (Brett) Busick of Orleans, Indiana; brother Randy (Carol) Anderson of Sun City Center, Florida; four grandsons; Parker (Laine) Busick of Dubois, Indiana, Patton (Weslie) Busick of Orleans, Indiana, Will Busick of Orleans, Indiana and Briar Brummett of Sullivan, Indiana, two granddaughters; Baylee Brummett and Bayhlie Mize both of Sullivan, Indiana, two great-granddaughters; Gracen and Elsie and two great-grandsons; Oliver and Nixon.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Sullivan Methodist Church in Sullivan, Indiana with Rev. Dan Sinkhorn officiating. Interment will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Indiana with a Military graveside service by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera Legion Posts and Sullivan county VFW Post. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Sullivan Methodist Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Brust Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Sullivan First United Methodist Church or the Sullivan County Community Foundation.
