Paul E. Edmiston

Paul E. Edmiston, 94, of Sullivan, Indiana passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Paul was born April 27, 1925 in Mayking, Kentucky to William M. and Manerva (Morgan) Edmiston. Paul married Ruth Thacker on June 24, 1947. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2009. Paul graduated from Whitesburg High School in Kentucky in 1943. He was drafted into the United States Navy in September 1943 and served in the Pacific Theatre until his honorable discharge in March of 1946. Paul then obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington and became a secondary school teacher. He later obtained his Master’s Degree from Indiana State and took numerous courses at Indiana University so he could teach agriculture, biology and chemistry at Carlisle until 1966 and then in Sullivan his retirement in 1986. He was the 4-H leader in Carlisle for nearly twenty years and he was Advisor to the Future Farmers of America in Carlisle and Sullivan for over thirty years. He was fortunate to have had many Star Farmers in the local chapter who competed very well in the State and National Conventions. Paul was an avid golfer and coached the Sullivan Golf team for a number of years. Paul was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Sullivan First Christian Church and the Sullivan BPOE 911.  

Paul is preceded in death by parents, wife, Ruth Edmiston, two brothers; Gene Edmiston and Rex Edmiston and sister, Ruth McCoy.

Survivors include son, Paul David Edmiston (Susan) of Frankfort, Indiana, daughter, Ruth Ann Sparks (Gary) of Avon, Indiana, brother, Jack Edmiston (Lois) of Lexington, Kentucky, two sisters; Evadean Hoskins of Lexington, Kentucky and Jane Ann Noble of Owensboro, Kentucky, five grandchildren; Paula, Julie, Brooke, Mary Beth and Michael and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana with Rev. David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Indiana with a Military graveside service by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera Legion Posts and Sullivan county VFW Post. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Brust Funeral Home.
