Andrew Lewis Hall Obituary

Andrew Lewis Hall, 77, died peacefully. surrounded by family at his home at 11:27 AM on July 13th, 2024. 

He was born April 14, 1947, in Millen, Georgia, to Andrew Jackson Hall and Dorothy Virginia (Foster) Hall, and grew up near Waynesboro, Georgia.

He learned to work at an early age on his Granddaddy Fosters farm, where his chores included picking cotton and plowing with a mule.  His first job was for a cattle ranch and peach orchard called Boll Weevil, where his experiences were as varied as helping to track down and kill a 10 ½ foot alligator to showing cattle at numerous state fairs.

As a teenager he spent part of each summer with his Uncle Danny and Aunt Lillie (Foster) Hayden, in Dodds Bridge, Indiana.

He graduated from Sardis High School, Sardis, Georgia, in 1965 and was stationed in South Korea during his service in the Army.

On March 15, 1969, he married Carolyn Sue Thompson at the Evangelical Methodist Church in Sullivan.  The first Two years they resided in Terre Haute and Prairieton.  On February 2, 1971, they were joined by a son, Andy, while living at Prairie Creek.  Daughter, Brook, was added to the family on November 4h, 1972 during their years at Dodds Bridge. From there they moved to Graysville, and for the last 31 years their home has been on the little farm and family compound east of Sullivan.

Known for his generous and helpful spirit, Lewis enjoyed his family, friends, business, work, travel, fishing, football, and cooking.

He and his wife have been members of Sullivan First Assembly of God for 40 years.  During those years he has served as a teacher, Royal Ranger leader, bus driver, “chief cook” (but not “bottle washer,” he had people for that), and board member.

Lewis was co-founder and owner of Linton Carpet Center, now known as Flooring America of Switz City, which is still owned and operated by his family. 

He is survived by his wife, Sue, his son, Andy (Beth) Hall, Sullivan; and daughter, Brook (Larry) Arnett, Sullivan; granddaughters, Ashton (Ashtyn) Taylor, Indianapolis; and Shelby Hall, Arlington, Virginia; a brother, Edward (Rosa) Hall, Cashiers, North Carolina; two sisters, Iris (John) Alden, Augusta, Georgia; and Virginia Daley, Hibbing, Minnesota; two aunts, an uncle, cousins,  brothers and sisters- in- law, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration will be held at First Assembly of God, 320 S. Bell Street, Sullivan, Indiana on July 24th at 11:00 AM with lunch following.
