Betty Jean Knotts, 94, of Carlisle, Indiana passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.
She was born on October 17, 1926 in Lawrence County, Illinois the daughter of Eugene Porter and Verdona Means Porter. Jean graduated from Bridgeport High School. After graduating high school Jean worked odd jobs to earn money to pay for college. Jean earned her Associates of Science Degree in Education from Vincennes University, her Bachler of Science Degree in Library Science from Butler University and then her Master of Science Degree in Library Science from Indiana State University. She taught grades 1-8 in Lawrence County Elementary Schools from 1949-1951 in a one room school house. Jean took some time off from teaching to start her family and then returned to teaching in 1971. She was the Librarian at Center Grove Community Middle School in Greenwood, Indiana until 1986. Jean was a member of the Shaker Prairie Christian Church, Kappa Delta Phi and Delta Cappa Gamma Society International (1976).
Jean is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara Burke.
Survivors include her loving husband of 68 years, Harry E. Knotts of Carlisle, Indiana, son, Larry Knotts of Leesburg, Florida, daughter, Carol (Timothy) Lavery of Bargersville, Indiana, sister, Deanna (Roy) Hinkle of Smyrna, Tennessee, five grandsons; Jeffrey Lavery (Amanda), Kevin Lavery (Audra), John Knotts, Paul Knotts and David Knotts and four great-grandchildren; Aiden, Kaitlyn, Jason and Eric.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 28, 2020 at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana with Brother Steve Sandefur officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Brust Funeral Home.
