Elizabeth “Bette” Coffey, 87, of Sullivan, Indiana

Elizabeth (Bette) Coffey, 87, passed away on August 19, 2025, at Sullivan Hospital. She was born on January 27, 1938, at home on the family farm in Shelburn, Indiana, to Charles and Helen McCormick Osburn.

Bette graduated from Graysville High School and worked as a bookkeeper before retiring from the Sullivan Housing Authority. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Bette found joy in the simple pleasures of life—she loved reading, gardening, canning, and cooking, and she cherished the time she spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Coffey, and her parents, Charles and Helen McCormick Osburn.

Bette is survived by her five children: Liz (Dave) Parcus, Charles (Lynette) Coffey, Nance (Mike) Lorenz, John (Cheryl) Coffey, and Genelle (Rick) Johns. She was a proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Stephanie Kirby, Jeremy Coffey, Blake Bradle, Brittany Bulfer, Cherish Cocivera, Keeley Coffey, Tiffany Todd, Jessica Lorenz, Lucas Lorenz, Clay Coffey, Ally Davis, Will Johns, and Sam Johns.

Bette’s life was a testament to love, faith, and family. She will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to her family, and the many lives she touched throughout her years.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM Saturday, August 23, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sullivan, IN with Father Suresh Bakka officiating. Burial in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, IN.
