James William Birch

James William Birch, 74, of Shirley, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Greenfield Healthcare Center in Greenfield, Indiana.

He was born on June 27, 1949, in Sullivan, Indiana the son of James Ernest Birch and Mary Eloise Birch. Jim graduated from Sullivan High School in 1967 and later graduated from Indiana State University. His career was in electrical design, working in plastics manufacturing and at design consulting firms. His favorite project was the renovation of Mackey Arena on the campus of Purdue University. Jim was a US Army veteran, serving in the 890th MP Company out of Fort Riley, Kansas.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his oldest son, James Jade Birch of Indianapolis, Indiana, youngest son, Russell William Birch and his wife Angela D. Birch of Greenfield, Indiana, two grandchildren; Emma M. Birch and Cole A. Birch, brothers Robert D. Birch and his friend, Denise Farmer of Terre Haute, Indiana and George R. Birch and his wife Ellen of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on November 4, 2023, at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana.  Interment will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Indiana with a Military graveside service by the Sullivan County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00PM on November 4, 2023, at Brust Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Riley’s Childrens Hospital, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
