Janice Marie Smith, 82, of Sullivan, IN, formerly of Hymera, entered into the presence of JESUS on Friday, October 31, 2025. She was born on July 22, 1943, to the late Herbert Ladson and Violet Marie Gore Ladson. Janice was a graduate of the class of 1961 of Hymera High School. She married the love of her life, Joe Smith, on May 3rd, 1963. Janice was a faithful member of the Hymera Independent Community Church. She was a 63-year member of the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association and was a past president and member of the Hymera Helpers Home Ec Club. Janice was a Horse & Pony 4-H Leader, along with her husband Joe. She enjoyed coaching softball for her daughters' teams. She loved to watch and cheer on the I U Hoosiers and Pacers Basketball Teams! Janice was a homemaker and her greatest blessings were when she got to spend time with her family. She loved camping with her husband and watching her kids show horses. She loved to collect Bears as a hobby. Janice and Joe have been so good to so many people over their married years and loved and took them in as their own. They loved their 2 dogs, Saint and Baby.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Jeff Smith (Rita} of Logansport, daughters, Toni Wiles (Jim} of Shelburn, and Jennifer Cox (Darin} of Graysville. Grandchildren: Steve Smith, Maria (Jonathan) Neal, Theresa (Andrew} Ray, and Jenna Cox. Great grandchildren: Kiera Smith, Atika Padgett, Oliveah Padgett, Emrys Padgett, Robert Neal, Josh Neal, Autumn Ray, Lawsen Ray, Brody Ray, and Sadie Ray. One Sister, Barbara Enstrom, Sister-in-laws June Ladson and Bonnie Smith. She was loved by many nieces and nephews and she was blessed with many good friends and wonderful neighbors.
Janice is reunited in heaven with her husband, her parents, her oldest son- Joey Smith, Sister Shirley Hull, Brother - John Ed Ladson, and special angel, Merri West.
The family wants to give special thanks to her Beth and wonderful neighbors, Dee Dee Daves and Alan Daves, and Gayla Lofton, who loved and cared for her, the Waters nurses, aides, and staff, ViaQuest Hospice and Chaplain Jeff Fulk, and all who prayed, visited, and reached out to encourage her, especially in the last year, which was a very difficult time in her life.
Janice is now at PEACE, completely out of pain (HEALED}, and in the arms of her husband once again and worshipping JESUS.
Graveside services, where her body will be laid to rest, will be held on November 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the K of P Cemetery in Hymera, per Janice's request. Hospice Chaplain, Jeff Fulk and Pastor Jordan Stockrahm will officiate her service. Brust Funeral Home will oversee arrangements.
