Joann Scott Faught Obituary

Joann Fulk Scott Faught, 97, of Sullivan, Indiana, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022, at home – following a brief illness. She was with family members at her passing.

Joann was born on April 29, 1925, in Jasonville, Indiana to Floyd and Rosetta (Liechty) Fulk. Survivors include her son, John Ray Scott, Sullivan; two stepdaughters, Michelle of Spring, Texas and Margot of New York, New York and Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Cindy (Rich) Stierwalt and Gina Scott; great-grandchildren, Alexa Stierwalt, Jackson (Leah) Stierwalt and Austyn (Aaron) Dowell; great-grandchild, Baylee Brummett; and great-great grandchild, Emery Stierwalt. She is also survived by two nieces, Barbara (Mike) Russell and Cathy Longstreet, and nephew, Robert (Judy) Fulk. She was preceded in death by her first husband, H. Ray Scott; her second husband, Sonner Faught; her parents; her brother, Robert Fulk; granddaughter, Sarah Scott Brummett; and nephew Steven Fulk.

After graduating from Clay City High School, Joann was a secretary, homemaker, and then worked at the Sullivan County REMC as a bookkeeper until her retirement.

Joann was a long-time member of the Sullivan First Baptist Church where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and on committees.  She belonged to the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary #139, Order of the Eastern Star #188 (75-year member), and VFW 2459 Auxiliary. One of her favorite activities was playing bridge with her various bridge clubs. In the past, Joann participated in Wednesday Morning Coffee Ladies’ Bowling League and Modern Manner Home Extension Club.

Joann was deeply devoted to her family and often showed that love through her wonderful cooking skills. She was known for her pies and candy and enjoyed sharing her delicious treats with many. Her cooking talent led her to spend countless hours in the kitchen with Legion Auxiliary members cooking meals for fundraisers.  Prayer was an important part of her daily life as she always prayed not only for her loved ones but for the good of her country, especially the military, veterans and homeless. During the pandemic, Joann made and sent her homemade cards to brighten people’s day.
