Kathleen Wanetta Kirton

Kathleen Wanetta Kirton, 99, of Sullivan, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Sullivan County Community Hospital.

She was born on May 12, 1922 in Midland, Indiana the daughter of John Thomas Rankins and Edna Jane Moore Rankins. Kathleen graduated from high school and worked at Graysville School and Miller’s Merry Manor. She attended the Sullivan First Christian Church.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents, foster parents, Carl and Francis Burton, husband, John Robert Kirton in 1978, son, John “Bob” Kirton Jr., grandson, Danny Forbes, two great-grandsons; Mitchell Ridge and Coty Forbes, sister, Leona Rankins and four brothers; Frank Rankin, William “Bud” Rankin, James Rankins and Infant Rankins.

Survivors include her son, Duane Kirton (Vicky) of Jasonville, Indiana, two daughters; Jane Myers of Sullivan, Indiana and Francie Smith of Sullivan, brother, John Rankin of Sullivan, grandchildren; Travis Kirton (Rebecca), Tiffany Vongontard (Ben), Toby Kirton, Cindy Cooley (Wayne), Mike Ridge (Tracy) and Paula Hamm, great-grandchildren; Maura Ridge (Zack), Marcus Ridge, Kevin Hamm, Stephanie Hamm, Steven Hamm, Danny Forbes Jr. (Joey), Laura Forbes (Markie), Alexa Vongontard, Alisa Vongontard, Ernest Cooley and Gracie Cooley and several great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana with Rev. David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Indiana. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, January 31, 2022 and Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the service at Brust Funeral Home.
