Loretta Elaine (Goodwin) McClanahan

Loretta Elaine McClanahan, 98 a cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother “GG” passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at her home in Carmi, IL, with her family by her side.

She was born in Sullivan Co. Indiana January 27, 1925, the daughter of George Goodwin and Angie (Phipps) Goodwin. A 1943 graduate of Union High School in Dugger, IN. She married Jack McClanahan in 1946 and moved to her home northwest of Hymera, IN. She worked in the cafeteria at Hymera High School.

In 1972 Jack and Loretta moved to Owensville, IN, where she was employed at the Owensville Nursing Home .She lived the rest of her life with her son, Tim in Carmi, Illinois, to be close to her daughter Tammy.

In the late 1980’s Loretta and her family discovered a love for camping and spent over 20 years in Circle “C ’at the Sullivan Co. Park and Lake, enjoying family and friends.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 40 years Jack, her son Terry, and four brothers, Henry, Harold, Carol and John Goodwin, and three sisters, Christina and Elizabeth Goodwin, and Minnie Pope.

She is survived by a daughter, Tammy Willis (Kendall), of Enfield, IL., sons, Tim McClanahan of Carmi, IL and Tom McClanahan of Sullivan, IN: six grandchildren, Andy Barrett (Mandy), Sara Grissom (Darrin), Jason McClanahan, Emily Cook (Peter), Dennis Black (Barbara), Matt Black (Mary Beth), seven great grandchildren, Cooper, Cannon, Callie and Draven Barrett, Sophia Plunkett, Arthur and Eloise Cook.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana with Curt Bedwell officiating. Burial in the Claiborne Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until services.
