Matthew L. Sheldon Obituary
Matthew L. Sheldon, 61, of Shelburn, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
Matthew graduated with the South Point High School class of ‘81, in South Point Ohio, and attended the Lawrence County Vocational school where he studied small engine repair. Matthew enlisted in the U.S. Air Force following graduation, where he served honorably for 12 years, including a 3-year tour in Turkey. He eventually settled in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he worked as a landscaper for the Tulip Company for 20 years. Matt had a true passion for growing beautiful plants, and he loved going to work every day. He considered his coworkers to be family. Matt was a hardworking man who still found time to attend every one of his stepdaughters’ softball games. His stepdaughters, Amanda Moore and Mary Mastellen, were the children he always wanted. His step granddaughter, Izabella Mastellen, was his joy. Matt had a big heart, never turning away an animal in need and would adopt many stray cats and dogs over the years. He enjoyed fixing old motorcycles, and especially loved fishing on the lake near his home.
Matthew is preceded in death by his father, Robert Sheldon of South Point, Ohio, and his beloved wife, Caryn Harpring of Shelburn, Indiana.
He is survived by his mother, Janet Sheldon and sister Nancy Sheldon Peavy, of South Point Ohio, stepdaughters Amanda Moore and Mary Mastellen, and step grandaughter Isabella Mastellen of Terre Haute, Indiana, his Aunt Judy Squeo of Columbus, Ohio, and nephews Zane and Vincent Peavy of Shreveport, Louisiana.
