Rowena “Nan” L. Flatt, 93, of Sullivan, Indiana formerly of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Waters of Sullivan Nursing Home.
She was born on March 30, 1929 in Flint, Michigan the daughter of Thomas Unger and Roxie Bates Unger.
Nan taught dance at Arthur Murray studios before she met and married Russell Flatt on November 28, 1963 in Sullivan, Indiana. Nan loved to dance and loved her days as a dancing instructor. Nan retired from South Bend Clinic from Clerical and Medical Records. She was a member of the Methodist Church and New Carlisle Legion Aux. She loved and was deeply loved by her family and all who knew her. She had a huge heart inside her tiny body and spread joy and laughter wherever she went.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Russell Flatt and two brothers; Larry and Bill Unger.
Survivors include her daughter, Claudia (James) Varga of Indianapolis, Indiana, two grandchildren; Anna (Nicholas) Varga-Peoni and Sam Varga, two great-grandchildren; Lucy and Nicholas Peoni, three sisters; Betty (Dean) Skinner of Bardstown, Kentucky, Dorothy Unger of Sullivan, Indiana and Nancy Goodman of Sullivan, Indiana.
A private burial will be held at a later date in New Carlisle Cemetery in New Carlisle, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Association.
