Ruth Pauline (Patton) Figg Obituary

Ruth Pauline (Patton) Figg passed away peacefully at home in Sullivan, Indiana, on March 17, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on May 9, 1934, in Cass, Indiana, to William Arley Patton and Nelle (Hummel) Patton. Ruth was one of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death: Wayne Patton, Bill (Helen) Patton, Wendell (Barbara) Patton, Fred Patton, Marge (Merlin) Miller, June (Bob) Hoesman, Barbara Patton, and Phyllis Patton.

Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Benny Laurel Figg, who passed away only months ago in December 2024. Also preceding her in death were an infant grandson, Lester Daniel Alumbaugh, a brother-in-law Larry Figg, and sisters-in-law Criss Figg and Margaret Stanton.

Ruth was a member of the Dugger Union High School class of 1953 and of the Shiloh Church of Christ in Dugger. She had several jobs, but her true career was a full-time farm wife and grandma. She was always delivering parts, running farm hands back and forth, babysitting grandkids, or serving up one of her many amazing meals. Every meal was like Thanksgiving if Ruth was cooking, and this is one of the most cherished memories of all who were lucky enough to be fed by her. Whether it was Sunday dinner, or a meal carted out to the fields, you always got something truly amazing complete with sides and, of course, desserts. Her cinnamon pie was an especially prized treat. She was the life of the party at family get-togethers and could often be found telling stories and anecdotes that brought much laughter to her friends and family. She spoiled her family every chance she could, especially her grand- and great grandkids. Even in her final days she was still trying to play with her littlest visitors.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Beth Alumbaugh, Dugger; two sons: Jeff (Kim) Figg, Sullivan; and Matt (Cheri) Figg, Sullivan; six grandchildren: Ally (Jordan) Orwig, Sullivan; Tyler (Valerie) Figg, Lafayette; Rachel (Kyle) Ubelhor, Huntingburg; Clay Figg, Sullivan; and Nicholas and Jesse Roberts, Sullivan; and five great grandchildren: Beatrix, Hazel, and Ivy Orwig, Henry and Simon Figg, and soon-to-be Baby Ubelhor. She is also remembered by her very cherished brothers-and sisters-in-law: Margaret Patton, Jerri Figg, Tucker Figg, Mike (Dot) Figg, and Garland Stanton, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Services will be held at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan on Saturday March 22, 2025, at 12:00PM. Visitation from 11 am until time of the service. Burial will follow at Woodward Cemetery in Dugger, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodward Cemetery, 816 E. England Dr, Sullivan, Indiana or Shiloh Church of Christ, 2254 S. County Rd. 200 E., Sullivan, Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

In addition, the family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Gentiva Hospice and Tracey's Girls for the care and attention given to both Ruth and her family during these last weeks. Special thanks to Nurse Heather Fagg.
